Tips to Building a Great Branding Strategy

A Great Branding Strategy

Your brand defines you. Your brand speaks of everything that you do. That is why you need an excellent branding strategy.

You can always take a cue from the giant companies such as Nike that know how to manage their brand exceptionally well.

Here are some tips that will definitely help you out:

Everyone is Responsible for Brand Management

Brand management requires everyone involved, to come together and to work on it. The responsibility doesn’t end up on the shoulders of just one person or two people. Each and every employee should understand his or her duty towards the company and ensure that customers are happy. It is your job to make your employees realize their importance and to educate them about every step so that they are aware of their role.

Core Proposition should be Clearly Defined

Your core proposition stems from brand personality, brand promise, and the traits of the company. You have to go back to the time you decided to build the company and you have to think about your goals. When you clearly understand yourself and your roles you will be able to define your core proposition such that everything down to your logo is clearly defined and showcases brand value.

Advertise Sensibly

Simply advertising to a large group of people will not take you anywhere. You have to understand your target audience and that understanding will only come from research. Ask yourself questions such as the age group your offering targets, the gender your offering targets, the locality it targets, and so on. When you research and find out your target audience you should advertise to them specifically based on their needs. That is how you will be able to strengthen your brand.

Be Consistent

Right from the word go, you have to be consistent. If you are planning on using the logo of your company in a particular way there should be clear documentation defining just that. In case you change the logo after a point of time you should make sure you refresh your offerings for the better, too, so that the change is justified. If you don’t want to change your offerings you shouldn’t touch the logo either.

Question

Brand strategy implementation takes a lot of effort and research. When you think of coming up with a new strategy you should ask yourself whether it is necessary first. If yes, you should ask yourself how it will benefit you and why you want to go for it. Only when you have all the answers should you go ahead.

A great brand strategy comes from a lot of thought, questioning, and effort.

Entrepreneurial Learning

If you put in the effort, building a great brand strategy won’t seem very difficult. You just have to be sure about it and you should make sure the entire company is refreshed accordingly. Ask a lot of questions and do your research before making a move.

Give your Employees the Freedom to Speak Up

Employee Freedom to Speak Up

For a healthy work environment, proper communication is an absolute must.

If you don’t give your customers the freedom to speak up and be honest, there will be miscommunication, lies, misunderstanding, and other negatives in your office environment. Companies that let employees open up are more focused and united. That is what you should look to achieve.

Encourage

Employees are generally quite scared of speaking up. You should take the lead and let them know that it is safe to share. Start speaking up yourself and your employees will follow suit. They will know that it is safe to talk about their fears and mistakes without worrying about judgment. Once they start sharing, you will be able to tackle problems with ease.

Reward

This is a continuation of encouragement. Taking the lead is part one. Encourage communication further by rewarding those who actually step forward. A smile and a thank you will take you a long way. Plus, it will help the others open up. Always reward honest speech.

Innovate

Support communication by introducing new ways. Team activity is an excellent way to start. Bring your team together for work and when you have to take a break. You can do that in many ways. Start thinking!

Don’t group your employees in twos and threes. Make teams and give them individual projects to do. Team building is one of the best ways to encourage communication. Also, don’t divide your employees department-wise. Encourage inter-department mingling, too. That will help you build strong teams and in the end, a strong business.

Be Constructive

Criticism doesn’t always have to be destructive. As the leader you should point out errors such that your employees improve instead of getting disheartened. Be open and understand why an employee made a mistake. Honest criticism may help you but it can imbibe fear in your employees. Also, don’t ever judge anybody. Judging people will only cause negative effects. Encourage your employees through constructive criticism.

Employees want to be open and it is important that they be honest and able to communicate. That can happen only when you encourage it. Encourage your employees to speak their mind without fear by ruling out judgment on all levels. If your employees don’t communicate with each other and with you, your business will soon crumble.

Entrepreneurial Learning

Communicative employee base is the secret to a healthy business. Let your employees know that it is safe to communicate and share their mistakes, fears, and ideas. Encourage communication by being constructive, helpful, and open.

Large Cash Transactions to Attract Scrutiny

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has issued new guidelines for mandatory information that Kenyans will be required to provide when handling large cash banking transactions, equal to or exceeding USD 10,000 or its equivalent in Kenya Shillings or any other currency.

These guidelines take effect immediately and customers of various banks in Kenya will be required to fill a declaration form to provide the following details:

  • Why is the large cash deposit or withdrawal necessary?
  • Why can’t the cash deposit or withdrawal be made through electronic means?
  • Where will the money be taken after it leaves the bank premises?
  • What is the money going to be used for?
  • Who will be the direct and indirect beneficiaries of the money?
  • What is the full identity of the intended beneficiaries of the money?
  • What is the source of the money being deposited or withdrawn over the counter?

According to CBK, the new regulations are designed to encourage the use of electronic payments and reduce the inherent risks involved with cash transactions. Electronic payments are beneficial to customers as they reduce losses due to fraud and theft.

To stay on the safe side of the regulations, banks in Kenya are offering alternate payment solutions such as

  • Electronic Funds Transfers (EFTs)
  • Real Time Gross Settlements (RTGS)
  • Mobile payments
  • Online Banking
  • Cross border funds transfers i.e. SWIFT
  • Cheques (both Bankers and Personal cheques)
