Data Scientist

Overall role description:
ABC Impact Advisors is looking to hire a data scientist with excellent data analysis skills to work under the Investments and Operations departments. The position will involve translating complex statistical conclusions into appropriate business language, while also working with key stakeholders to increase the overall sophistication of the business’s ability to interpret data. Methods may include development of predictive models and other data science projects, depending on skills, interest, and demand. The right candidate should be highly motivated, able to perform tasks under minimum supervision, adaptable, have a high degree of personal integrity and have good communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:
1. Drive model design, development and implementation in partnership with key stakeholders.
2. Develop a keen understanding of the business to identify key value drivers and root causes.
3. Proactively identify, design, and test data-driven hypotheses.
4. Build company-spanning frameworks and tools for measuring portfolio performance and evaluating business changes and pilots.
5. Design and develop predictive models to enable planning and decision-making.
6. Communicate analysis and drive improved decision making with the broader business in a straight-forward, clear manner.
7. Provide support and mentorship to other departments on any data related responsibilities.

Required Skills and Knowledge:
1. Ability to quickly understand key value drivers in the impact investment space.
2. Keen business sense and comfort working hand-in-hand with other members of the ABC team.
3. Experience working with large and complex datasets, and combining multiple sources of data (across databases, types, and sources)
4. Experience designing and developing predictive models, customer segmentations, and other analytics; data science expertise (e.g., machine and deep learning models) preferred
5. Strong visual communication and design skills.
6. Passion for developing technical, communication, and data skills both within the team and to the broader business.
7. Ability to fluently and meticulously communicate technical details to broader stakeholders.
8. Excellent Python or R skills required. Must be comfortable with Pandas, Numpy, Scipy, Scikit- learn and Tensor flow in Python or their equivalents in R.
9. Meticulousness in ensuring error-free, high-quality analyses with a passion for learning new things.

Education and Experience:
 BSc in Financial Engineering, Financial Economics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Applied Statistics or another quantitative field and/or equivalent experience and independent learning (we are mainly interested in your ability to do the job).
 At least 1 year experience in a similar role in a reputable company.
